Dr. Ampiah completed his undergraduate studies at University of Ghana and later pursued both his Master’s degree and PhD at University of Nottingham as a scholar. His doctoral research focused on pain, musculoskeletal health, physical activity, and rehabilitation among adults in Ghana, contributing to broader understanding of rehabilitation and community health within African contexts.

Prior to joining Brunel University London, Dr. Ampiah served as Senior Physiotherapist and Head of Physiotherapy at Ga South Municipal Hospital, where he provided leadership for rehabilitation services, musculoskeletal and neurological rehabilitation initiatives, patient-centred care delivery, and community rehabilitation engagement. He additionally contributed to multidisciplinary rehabilitation and functional recovery initiatives with Ascenti, one of the United Kingdom’s leading physiotherapy and rehabilitation providers.

Dr. Ampiah has played an important role in advancing healthy ageing and older adult engagement initiatives in Ghana. He facilitated the establishment of the University of Ghana Older Adults Reference Group (UGORG), developed in partnership with Brunel University London. This pioneering initiative supports active involvement of older adults in research, advocacy, and health-related decision-making processes through a Patient and Public Involvement and Engagement (PPIE) framework. The initiative promotes community participation, strengthens research relevance, and advances healthier ageing outcomes through collaborative and culturally responsive approaches.

In addition to his academic and rehabilitation leadership, Dr. Ampiah has substantial experience in sports physiotherapy and international health initiatives. He served as physiotherapist for Team Ghana during the 2015 All Africa Games in Congo and the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. He is also a certified Doping Control Officer affiliated with the International Testing Agency and the Africa Zone VI Regional Anti-Doping Organisation.

His role supports the Foundation’s commitment to sustainable community health improvement, preventive wellness, rehabilitation advocacy, and equitable access to health and wellbeing initiatives.
